How Can White and Pink Noise Be Generated?

White and Pink Noise can be generated through either two methods: hardware or software.

White and Pink Noise Generator

Let's first talk about the hardware approach. The hardware approach is using an actual physical device that can generate white or pink noise. This device is called a noise generator. It can be played at a certain level and distance from a microphone to do audio testing on the microphone. Pink Noise can be generated from the device to test the noise cancellation ability of the microphone while white noise can be generated to test the frequency response of the microphone.

The other way that pink and white noise can be generated is through special audio software. The audio software can be made to play out the white noise or pink noise either in stereo or mono at whatever sound level is needed. Examples of audio softwares that can perform this are CoolEdit and Adobe Audition.
